Last Sunday was spent on the 'shelf' tiles. Took FOREVER... but... it turned out pretty nice in the end. Now, all that's left is the roof + chimney... and for some strange reason... it's supposesd to rain this week... so I better get started...
Saturday morning was supposed to be a bike ride, but it got cancelled, so... the day was spent on the pizza oven... AGAIN!! But, it turned out to be a day well spent. Started working on the next thing which was the counter top trim. Used 2x6 redwood boards cut to aprox 2x3. These were then screwed and glued to around the countertop. When that was done, we stained them with some gray stain, but... that didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped. But, we got the oven ready for our first neibourhood party.
We worked all Labour Day, but we made it: Stucco is done!!! All thats left now is the chimney + a tiny 2x2 square feet area behind the right countertop (ran out of stucco - NOT fingertips, had 7 non-bleeding left so there :-)
So, after a few months use, the oven is getting some well deserved improvents: stucco. Did 3 walls in the shade. Turned out ok I think. Will do the restof the base coat tomorrow in the evening.
Now that the structure is completed... I'm going to try to level it out a little by screening some thin-set or something like that on the top surface. This will make it a little more solid as well. Once that's done, the backerboard will be installed and we're ready for some slate tiles to finish it all off.
June 16th 8.45 in the evening, I just finished cutting and installing the last cinderblock in the right hand side countertop. It turned out really nice, a little uneven here and there, but overall, it's going to be a nice area to assemble pizzas. Next is the backerboard, and then we're ready for some slate tiles.
